Superbook ( スーパーブック , Sūpābukku ), also known equally Blithe Parent and Child Theatre ( アニメ 親子劇場 , Anime Oyako Gekijō ),[1] is a Christian anime television receiver series from the early 1980s, initially produced at Tatsunoko Productions and TV Tokyo in Japan in conjunction with the Christian Dissemination Network in the Us, and rebooted in 2011 by CBN with Asia-Pacific region animation studios along with locally based partners similar Tokyo MX and Word of Life Press Ministries in Japan.[ii] [3] [4] [five] [vi]

The serial chronicled the events of the Bible's Old and New Testaments in its 52-episode run. The first 26 episodes aired from October 1, 1981 to March 25, 1982. The series returned as Superbook Two: In Search for Ruffles and Return to the 20th Century ( パソコントラベル探偵団 , Pasokon Toraberu Tanteidan , lit. Personal Computer Travel Detective Squad) with 26 episodes to air from April four, 1983 to September 26, 1983. Between both series in the offset run was the companion series The Flying Firm. The Christian Dissemination Network is producing a new Superbook serial and has released 5 seasons.[7] CBN is distributing the offset, 2nd and 3rd seasons for free on their Superbook Kid's Website.[8]

Overview [edit]

Original series [edit]

The get-go series, Superbook (Anime Oyako Gekijo), begins at the abode of a young boy named Christopher "Chris" Peeper, who discovers the aboriginal Bible named Superbook that can speak and send him, his friend Joy (Azusa Yamato), and his clockwork toy effigy named Gizmo the Crusader Robot dorsum in fourth dimension during the events of the One-time and New Testaments. The second series, Superbook II: In Search for Ruffles and Return to the 20th Century (Pasokon Travel Tanteidan), takes place two years after the kickoff series, where Superbook falls onto a computer, giving anybody the ability to run across into the past from Christopher'southward home via the monitor. Ruffles, his poodle, has managed to become lost in time, prompting Gizmo and Christopher's little brother (rewritten as his cousin in the English language dub), Uriah "Uri" Peeper, to search for Ruffles. While Chris and Joy proceed watch and command of the computer from the present, Gizmo and Uri experience the stories from the Old Testament solely.

Reboot series [edit]

Set in the 23rd century AD, a boy named Christopher "Chris" J. Breakthrough, who e'er has problems, travels with his friends Joy and Gizmo through Superbook dorsum to the Biblical times from the Old Testament and New Testament.

Bandage and Characters [edit]

Original serial [edit]

  • Christopher "Chris" Pepper (voiced by Sho Asuka in Japan, Billie Lou Watt in English language dub): The main hero of the series, who is Professor Quantum'due south son and Gizmo's former owner.
  • Joy (voiced past Azusa Yamato in Japan, Sonia Ownes in English language dub): Chris' next-door neighbour and all-time friend.
  • Gizmo the Crusading Robot (voiced Zenmaijikake in Japan, Billie Lou Watt in English dub): The name of two characters, depending on the season. In flavour 1, he is Chris' advanced toy figure that tin become a existent life robot. And so in flavour two, Gizmo became a real-life sized robot built by Uri'south father.
  • Uriah "Uri" Peeper (voiced past Yuu Asuka): Chris' brother/cousin and Gizmo's current possessor.
  • Professor Frederick "Fred" Peeper (voiced by Professor Asuka in Japan, Ray Owens in English dub): A scientist who is Christopher'south father.
  • Phoebe Peeper: Chris' female parent.
  • Ruffles (voiced by Kikyomu): Chris' and Uri's Yorkshire Terrier poodle.
  • Superbook (voiced by Ray Owens in English language dub): An ancient Bible that takes Chris, Joy, Gizmo, and Uri back to the Sometime and New Testament era.

Reboot series [edit]

  • Christopher "Chris" J. Breakthrough (voiced past Samuel Vincent): An awesome skateboarder, video gamer and lead guitarist in a garage band with his Valleyview Heart Schoolhouse buddies. He uncovers the secrets of Superbook through a mysterious portal to the past.
  • Joy Pepper (voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent): Next-door neighbor, best friend, and classmate of Chris Quantum at Valleyview Center Schoolhouse. She is approachable and usually a flake more adventurous than Chris. She loves soccer, is able-bodied, and peachy at other sports too.
  • Gizmo (voiced by Cathy Weseluck): A robot created by Chris' dad, Professor Quantum, to protect both Chris and Joy, just they end up protecting him. He loves upgrades to make himself more useful and would rather stay in the lab than time-travel with Superbook. A really absurd feature of Gizmo is that he tin change his appearance as needed.
  • Superbook (voiced by Colin Murdock): A device that takes Chris, Joy, and Gizmo through a portal to travel back in the One-time and New Testament era during biblical times.
  • Professor Crispin Breakthrough (voiced by Jan Rabson): A scientist and inventor who is Chris' father, Phoebe's husband, and Gizmo's creator.
  • Phoebe Quantum (voiced past Nicole Oliver): Chris' mother and Crispin's wife.
